It’s starting to feel like summer…

Aka, it’s way too hot already. Today me and Maren decided to clip the little beastie. It’s been sooo hot… it’s… not my favourite weather. Last year we had an above ground pool and it was literally a life saver. Unfortunately we were responsible and put it away for the winter… why is that unfortunate? Well, because this past winter a big tree fell right on top of the shed where the pool was being stored. So it’s smushed. So we no longer have a pool:( anyways, back to Liliput’s clip.

She still had tons of her winter fluff, and was looking miserably hot. Me and Maren alternated clipping… It took awhile (because I’m the worlds slowest clipper! Haha)… but actually turned out pretty good!!

She’s so cute right?! The plus side of all this super warm weather is that I’ve had the chance to give both Rasty and Tanta baths. They really needed it… especially Tanta. But the ungrateful ponies went and rolled immediately after I turned them out. Luckily I assumed that’s what they would do and put sheets on them, so the damage was minimal.

Tanta has been doing well on her rehab program, and is still (knock on so much wood!!) sound.

And me and fox have a jumping show coming up this Saturday. I’m very excited for that!! We’ve entered 2’3” and 2’6”. Fox has been so very good lately, and she’s so fun to jump.

And the pups! They are doing super well. Today they turned 6 weeks old, I can’t believe it’s been they long already. About a week ago we started bringing them outside into a pen to play, and they love it. We’ve also started taking them for small “walks” around the yard in their harnesses, to get them used to wearing them. Really we just follow them around though.

My pony is actually a unicorn!

So naturally when I was scrolling around online, window shopping, and saw THIS; (Equiture Unicorn Browband!)

583FABEA-777D-4703-8479-E985FECA84FE
Photo from Equiture’s website!

had to have it. But at the same time, it was a lot more than I would normally spend on a random splurge that I don’t technically need, and isn’t even on sale. However it was just soooooo amazing. I couldn’t resist. I tried to be reasonable, and I waited 2 whole weeks, trying to talk myself out of it. I mean, I love the browband that came with my Solo dressage bridle, so no need to replace that.

My beloved Solo Splendor!!!

And I… don’t yet have a jump bridle for Tanta. I need to sell my saddle and buy a different one, as my current one doesn’t fit me properly. So I’m waiting to see what colour I end up with so I can get a bridle that matches.

But! When I do buy a jump bridle, it most likely won’t come with a bling browband. And I do love blingy browbands. Obviously. Anyways, It’s good to be prepared RIGHT?!? So I should just buy the browband, and and then when I get a jump bridle it can go on that. Good logic right😉

so, I ordered the browband, along with some mane and tail detangler, some ‘shiny’ coat conditioner and some amazing dreamers and schemers boot socks with flying pigs, from Leveza!!!! Because… if I ordered enough I’d get free shipping. Logic. Anyways, a couple days ago it all arrived!

All the items were were wrapped up in tissue paper, and there was a nice card included. It was a nice touch. And it was EXCITING!! to open! Felt like Christmas😉

When I opened the browband it glittered all over the place!!! So pretty🥰

I took it outside to try on Tanta. I put it on her dressage bridle (well, I guess i don’t have anything else to put it on), and she looks SO CUTE in it!!!!!!!!!!!!

honestly, it looks about 10x more magnificent in person!! I love it.

I have been using it for every ride, and it’s just so blingy. It makes me happy every time I see it!!! Maybe that’s weird, but it does. I would totally buy more of the equiture browbands, if I had more $$. There are so many gorgeous ones!

I think oliver needs one. Right?!?!

Just look at his bling compared to Tanta’s… poor Ollie😞

While there is technically nothing wrong with his browband, he told me he would really like a new, bling-y-er browband😉

I’m thinking this ‘mocha’ one would look suuuuuppppper cute on him.

Come on Maren!!! He would look so sweet in it😉😊

Trot sets and trail rides…

Today me and a Maren decided to take our ponies on a nice, gentle trail ride. Backing up a bit, Tanta got the go-ahead to start the next part of her rehab!! Which is:

7EFFECD9-141F-4D41-8A47-D88285E7A1FF.jpeg

We just completed day 3 today. It’s so fun trotting her again!! Hehehe.

Anyways, We thought we’d just walk and then do Tanta’s trot sets on the flat parts of the trail. It was a really nice day… actually sorta cold, but there was sun and no rain so I’m not complaining.

But once we mounted up and headed out, we realized it was super windy. Ok… we started the ride off with a small twig falling out of a tree and landing on Tanta’s head… which startled her. So she was on high alert! So the tarp flapping around the back of our neighbors woodshed in the bushes caused a few spooks!! Then a big scary truck drove past us which freaked me out more than Tanta… who was unphased.

we turned down a side road, and got about 1/3 way along before Tanta stopped/started spooking at a rock. a rock!! This is when I realized Tanta was feeling veerrryyy fresh. Hahaha. She isn’t one to spook at stuff like that, unless she’s feeling hyper! So… she literally wouldn’t walk past the rock, and was skittering out in the middle of the road. We might have held up traffic. Maybe. I had to give her a big kick… that worked. After that I waved apologetically at the traffic and made Maren lead. Which was fine. Until we got near a horse hand walking in the opposite direction. Both Oliver and tanta most definitely saw the other horse… but… Oliver waited until we were pretty much right across (we were on opposite sides of the road) from this other horse before he threw in a massive spook, and landed with his from feet in the ditch, then hastily retreated from the ditch, almost leaving Maren in it. I thought he was going to *ditch* her. Get it!!! Hahaha… ok yeah that wasn’t that funny. MOVING ON!

we then got the the actual ‘trail’ part, and that went pretty well. Our horses were snorty/spooky, sure, but nobody ended up in ditches or on the ground so I call it a success.

F872E2C1-73ED-4494-89A7-5641A6CDD5B9.jpeg

After that we popped out onto another road, this one quite hilly. we walked down hill #1, and then started to trot up the next hill. Except Tanta spotted this really old falling apart truck on the side of the road, that has literally been there forever and decided it was going to eat her. Cue her spooking all the way across the road and almost into the ravine… ugh. I managed to kick her forward to avoid that disaster. Thank goodness these roads are pretty quiet!! The rest of that road went relatively well, other than a few minor spooks. After that both Oliver and Tanta seemed to have really calmed down, so we were just walking on a loose rein. Then this truck with a big trailer (bouncing EVERYWHERE, I might add) zoomed past us. Didn’t slow down at all (was going too fast to begin with) and didn’t go wide around us at all. So yeah, another spook… but not too bad. Luckily they are used to cars and trucks.

Right after that Ollie and Tanta relaxed back into the loose rein walking, lulling me and Maren into a false sense of security. We had just turned a sharp corner… one minute I was slowly plodding down the road on a loose rein, and the next I was plastered back as Tanta bolted down the road… luckily it didn’t take long to get both horses under control again… of course there were 5 cars all trying to drive by right at that moment. They were all really nice and pulled over as soon as they saw Tanta and Ollie bolting down the road… but… what? Tanta  has never bolted before, and I had no idea what spooked her. I was in the front, so couldn’t see what Ollie had done. I asked Maren and apparently a car came around the bend behind us, causing Ollie to spook And land with all 4s in the ditch, and bolt forwards… and I’m assuming he startled Tanta into bolting… ha.

Thankfully at this point we were like 10’ from our driveway… and got home safely.

I really wish Maren had worn her helmet cam… it would have been really entertaining footage!!

Relaxing trail ride right? Hahaha

Dressage ride on Ollie

Today Maren let me ride Ollie! He wasn’t impressed…

Uh oh… dis is my aunty Brianna saddle…

Maren mentioned wanting to switch out Oliver’s bit, as she thought he could maybe be more consistent in the contact, and wasn’t sure if a different bit would help. He was using a bit our trainer suggested, that she had liked with her old horse. I dunno what it’s called, and I’d never seen one before Ollie’s. I meant to take a pic, but yeah I forgot.

Anyways, we had a look at our bit collection, and decided to try a simple Eggbutt French link.

New bit!

I also used my dressage saddle, which fits Ollie pretty darn good, despite being fit to Tanta.

❤️

As soon as I mounted and picked up a contact, I noticed how supple and soft he felt. Normally he can be a little bit stiff, and sometimes resisting. We warmed up with lots of walking and lateral work. We then moved onto some trot work. He felt so good!!! He was super on my aids, and ya know when it just feels like you can control where every step lands? Like that. He was really using his back too, so that was nice😉

Then came the canter… so… that didn’t go quite so smooth. Hahaha… first, it took me ages to actually get the canter. Like, he just wouldn’t. I eventually gave up trying to get a nice transition and just gave him a good “pony club kick”. It did the trick. But it was also a super ugly transition… so I went for a very forward canter, then came back to the trot. And then worked on getting a nice(ish) trot-canter transition. Once we got that sorted, he was a lot better.

He tends to “tranter” a bit, and fall to the inside. And cutting the corners is his favourite.

So anyways, I needed to sort myself out before I could get him to do anything correctly. So that meant shortening my reins (isn’t that always the answer though? Haha), carrying my hands (sneaky inside hand likes to drift downwards), and I need to actually use my inside leg. If I’m not thinking about it, my inside leg likes to slack off and I try to use my inside rein instead… which needless to say does not normally work well. Especially on a tranter-er who likes to cut corners. So anyways, once I figured out what I had to do, and rode him FORWARD into my hands, instead of pulling with my hands, he was super. Yeah, it was sorta rough around the edges, but definitely some improvement!!

Modelling his new boots

After I was finished Maren hopped on and thought he felt great! So that’s cool. Hopefully I’ll be allowed on him again soon😁

Catch up post about stuff

Yikes. Sometimes too much stuff happens, and I feel the need to post about it all. And if I don’t have time to write a post with everything, I just don’t. Or maybe I really do have time, but it seems like too much work… I’m not really sure. But I do know that it seems to be a vicious circle. Skip blogging for a week, then want to post about it all, but don’t have time/am too lazy, and it piles up. More and more… you get the idea. So this is a real mishmashed post trying to catch up on all the stuff that happened since I last posted… Fair warning, this post will be long!

If I were an organized person, I’d start at the beginning and work my way till now. However, organized I am not, so it’ll sorta be sectioned by category… to be honest I can’t ever remember exactly when half this stuff took place!

Fox has been feeling better, so I’ve been riding her. I’ve had some lessons (and non-lesson rides) and took her out on the trail.

Getting out on the trail was nice. My first lesson was good, but Foxy was very excited and fast. Very fast haha. Zooming around the corners of the indoor. I’m pretty sure there’s videos from that but I can’t seem to find them… Next lesson was good too, she wasn’t as zoom-y. However she was very very playful so I got dumped;

There were quite a few control circles, and the above one didn’t work. Lol. I am fine though! It was one of those annoying falls that I probably could have stuck if I’d sat up… I got back on and we did a small course without the oxers. She was extremely good that time. (Figures lol). Next day we had another lesson, but Fox was very tired!

on Saturday (like, not last Saturday but the one before that) me and Fox attended a local schooling show. It was very fun and Fox was fabulous. However the trail ride over was… interesting. We normally trail ride over, as it’s only about a 20 minute hack, and then our horses are pretty much warmed up when we arrive. Which is nice, because the warm up ring can be a little hectic… I have been run into before. Multiple times actually. but anyways, we were riding over, and then suddenly saw this:

yeah. That’s a big loud machine with a swirly blade on the end chopping up the trail…😳 I’m not really sure why it was working on a Saturday. But it was pretty much blocking the path, so me and Maren hopped off our horses in advance, because we weren’t sure how they would react. The last thing we needed was one of us falling off before actually getting to the show! Lol. We made it by with (surprisingly/luckily) little drama. The downside of dismounting… there is a creek running across the trail right after where the machine was. So we had to cross that before getting back on our horses. So our feet got wet. It was sunny though, so they dried pretty quickly.

Then came the ‘treacherous river’ or so it’s called. It’s really not that treacherous… but on the other side is the campsite/party area. So it’s always slightly sketch riding through, as there’s normally always going to be some people (awake or sleeping), dogs (friendly or attack like…) Buses, tents, cars, and/or lots of garbage/broken glass/nails, but you never really know what/who. This time it seemed to be a camp set up. Busses and such. It was actually better than most times, because the dog was contained inside one of the said buses, and there wasn’t broken glass/garage everywhere like normal… I didn’t see any people on the way over…

Once at the show, we jumped a couple of the warm up fences then headed into our first class, X-poles. Fox was fabulous. We had a few missed distances, and I totally missed the line for the last 2 jumps, but Fox was very very good. And I stayed on haha.

We did another round at 2 foot, and Fox was a very good girl, so we stopped there.

And I had another lesson yesterday, and she was perfect!!! ❤️🦊🦄

Now for Tanta; she is feeling much better! A week ago a video was send to our vet, and she said Tanta could do 30 minute walks under saddle for 2 weeks. (So 1 more week!) and then send her another video.

Tanta has really been enjoying getting out, so that’s nice!!

A couple weeks ago (see how behind on posting I am? Lol) it warmed up enough for me to bathe the ponies!! Which was amazing, because they really needed it! I’ve actually done Rasty again since then, because after his first bath he went and rolled right in the dust. And then he was worse than before I bathed him. I put a sheet on his after his second bath!

So not impressed.

I’m glad I got those pony baths in, because a day later it was gross and really rainy for like a week. Wet and windy.

It’s actually lovely out today, but the forecast is calling for more rain so I dunno.

My lack of breeches was getting out of control, so I ordered a couple pairs that were on sale and I am loving them. LOVING them!

I’m am late posting this, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY FINN!! He turned 1… like two weeks ago. Sorry Finn! (March 28th was his bday!)

He’s such a good pup🥰🥰🥰

and very cute. Extremely cute❤️❤️❤️

And the very exciting news!!! Daisy, our golden retriever, had puppies!! Coincidentally, they were born on March 28th just like Finn!

There’s 2 girls and 1 boy. We are calling the boy Tucker and the girls Goldy and Little one. The girl names were only temporary, to tell them apart. However Goldy has really stuck… lol. Maren has started calling her Marigold.

They are growing SO fast. It’s crazy. All of their eyes are starting to open now, and Little one’s are almost fully open already.

The ‘puppy room’ is also the tv room, and since I haven’t wanted to leave the pups, I’ve been watching A LOT of eventing and dressage. It’s been pretty fun… me and Maren’s new favourite is the dressage from badminton, because they put the movement scores up on the screen as it happens, and because the commentary is hilarious. ERM XC is pretty good too, and there’s lots of videos!

Here’s a bunch of photos. Because PUPS!!

img_0562img_0765img_0348img_0653img_0660img_0663img_0762img_0680img_0534img_0710img_0713img_0344img_0546

Oh and I’ve been dying stuff purple. Because… purple is the best colour!! I died a white cotton lead rope purple ombré, or I tried anyway.

I love it, but I think I left it in the dye for too long. About 1/2 way down the rope it gets as dark as it would go… so therefore it’s only half ombré. I would love to try again, with another colour perhaps. But I need to get more lead ropes.

I also did an old sunshirt I had. It was very pale purple, and I died it a dark purple… it turned out very nice but I don’t have a pic.

I also have a slight debate… awhile ago I ordered Tanta some colour elite Majyk Equipe XC boots. I loved them right out of the box. They felt sturdy and protective, but also very breathable and comfortable for the horse. I was planning on waiting till I was actually doing more riding/jumping with Tanta to try them out, however my impatience won out, so I tried the fronts about a week ago on one of her walks. They fit her perfectly, but when I returned to the barn they had spun around. *sad* I thought maybe I had just put them on too loosely. So I tried them again yesterday. I did them up as tightly as I am comfortable doing up her boots, but they still spun. *extra sad* and that was only a 30 minute walk. I guess I’ll try the hinds on today, and see if they spin. I am unsure if I should just try and sell them… but I do love them so that makes me sad… but of course I don’t want XC boots that spin. Hmmm…

So yeah. That’s about it I think… (seriously though, how many topics can I stuff into one post? Haha). if anyone has any experience with the ME boots, do they take a few rides to sorta mold to your horses legs or perhaps I’m better off selling them while they are relatively new?

Tanta’s 2 week vet assessment and Rasty goes bridleless!

its been a busy week, but not busy with anything particularly exciting or interesting…

I haven’t been riding much because Tanta is still on stall rest and Fox is sore after having her shoes pulled. I did convince Maren to let me hop on Ollie a few days ago, and I’ve ridden Rasty a couple times.

220AA3E8-B63B-485D-A462-B468BBE4A274

Tuesday marked 2 weeks from when the vet looked at Tanta, so I trotted her and a video was sent to the vet. She is looking much better than she was when the vet saw her, but she isn’t sound yet at the trot, so she’s on 2 more weeks of stall rest.  Her leg has really swollen up too, just recently… which is concerning. So I’ve been icing and cold hosing her lots!

Some blankets that I ordered forever ago arrived! But then they were all too BIG!! Way too big. I dunno why… this brand must just fit reaaalllyy big. So I’ll have to ship those back… the worst part is that now I’ll have to get them back into those bags that blankets come in. So hard!!

6C92D8AF-E862-40C8-BDE4-99D5A867954496CD5B84-1D27-45EC-B9BD-B3AEDB9C58A5

Its hard to tell in the pic, but it literally hung off Tanta’s bum about a foot. At least.

I made a neckrope and tryed riding Rasty bridleless, which was super fun!! Rasty (as usual) was a perfect pony.

331152A7-CB2E-434A-BCD5-F9A61423EEF267A8497D-8C31-4152-8F73-2B82249366DF54A89BC5-5558-4AAF-842D-C9AD40CF49E8

It was super fun!! I’ll definitely be riding him like that more often.
